Patios planned around the yard, graded to drain, built to stay level

Patios built around how the yard gets used, from tiered fire-pit circles to big entertaining slabs, plus hardscape up to retaining walls.

A patio starts with how the yard gets used

The shape of a patio should come from what happens on it. A fire-pit circle wants a different footprint than a long entertaining slab, and a patio that has to share space with planters and a gazebo wants its edges planned around them.

Albert Cruz Jr starts by looking at the property and listening. Customers describe him as knowledgeable and full of ideas on design, which is how a back yard in San Marcos or Encinitas ends up with a patio that fits the way the family lives instead of a generic rectangle.

Grade, drainage and a slab that stays level

Water decides whether a patio lasts. A slab that sheds water away from the house and the footings stays clean and stable, while one that holds water ends up stained, slick and cracked. Slope and drainage are worked out before any concrete goes in.

Good ground preparation and reinforcement go under every pour, and Albert's crew keeps an eye on temperature and mix quality as the concrete is placed. The surface can then be finished plain, broom-textured, colored or stamped to match the house.

Albert has held California C-8 concrete license #601184 since 1990, and the crew is insured and bonded.

From a single patio to the whole hardscape

Many jobs grow beyond the patio itself. The same crew pours the sidewalks and entry paths that connect it, the curbs that hold a lawn edge, pads for a gazebo, and hardscape pieces up to retaining walls and fire-pit circles.

Doing it with one crew keeps the colors and finishes consistent from the back door to the garden gate. A stamped border can tie the pieces together, the way it does in Albert's stamped and decorative work.

★★★★★ Scott, Google review

Scott had a patio and sidewalk poured with drainage, and a ring of concrete around a planting bed shows the same idea on a smaller scale. For the walks and steps that lead up to a patio, see walkways, steps and stairs, or look at pool decks if water is part of the plan. Ready to start? Send the details through the contact page.

Drainage, stone looks and upkeep

Yes. Drainage can be built into the plan. One Google reviewer described Albert's crew putting in a huge patio and sidewalk with drainage, and keeping the site tidy while they worked.

It can. Stamped concrete gives the look of stone or brick for less, as one solid surface with no weeds growing between pieces and nothing that shifts out of place.

Keep the surface clean, fill small cracks before they widen, and reseal every few years. Albert uses non-toxic, eco-friendly sealers that are safe for pets and landscaping.
